Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

Wet weather persisted across the Mississippi River Valley on Tuesday as a strong front swept through the Central US. A low pressure system moved eastward from the Central Plains into the Mississippi River. Flow around this system pulled cold air in from the Northern Plains and Canada and created a cold front that extended from the Upper Midwest and Western Great Lakes, and into the Southern Plains. This system pulled moisture and warm and warm air in from the Gulf of Mexico, thus, scattered showers developed on the northern end of this front. No significant rainfall has been reported in the South, while 0.42 inches fell over Jacksonville, Illinois. Highs in the North remained warm for this time of year, with highs near 50, while cool air behind this front allowed for the Southern Plains to only reach into the lower to mid-60s. Also, freeze and front advisories were in effect for Oklahoma as overnight lows dropped to near freezing temperatures.

Ahead of this front, clouds increased over the East Coast as the system approached. New England and parts of the Northeast has seen some residual showers as flow from the Atlantic Ocean continued on Tuesday. In Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, 0.13 inches of rain was reported.

Out West, a frontal boundary has stalled and turned into a stationary front. This system lingered over the Canadian border and kicked up light and scattered showers, with flurries at high elevations of the Northern Rockies and Cascades. The rest of the West Coast saw a warming trend with mostly sunny skies and dry conditions.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of -2 degrees at Kremmling, Colo. to a midday high of 84 degrees at Opa Locka, Fla.
